Electric Guitar and iTunes Radio

Inspired by 80's Hair bands and our latest musical instrument purchase, we had a little party last night for a while.

We're thinking we ought to learn to play the thing sometime, but that might be more work and less fun than this was. May also take persistence, which is overworked right now.

Sanctus Real-"Whatever You're Doing"

Good Song
It does not want to be embedded, however, so if you are interested in hearing it, you will have to click that link, in peach. Mom, Dad, it's not very hymn-like.

While Running Errands

An International Scout. It was really kinda pretty, in a faded, rusty sort of way...
A truck full of... what?
At the mall: bored guys waiting for their women to finish shopping...
Popcorn with the Messiah:
Shopping at warehouse clubs is getting more interesting:
"No, I don't need a box, I'll just tie it underneath the pickup..."
In case you can't read the label, it's creatively packaged mozzarella.

FFFFF

Fall Fam Fest Fave Fotos:
Me'n'Superwoman not winning a cake
Taciturna going down in the dunk tank
Venom receiving a non-school-approved tattoo
The Mechanical Bull
In addition, we experienced the rock wall and the Bungee Run. Also enjoyed helping in the Award-Winning "Hide the Pea" booth (although it might have been even better if the pea had been hidden under twenty mattresses and the object had been to determine who was a princess and who was not), and the Catapult the Bible (represented by a hackey sack) Through the Heart game which was very fun and powerful (and apparently used by some sister to target her brother).

The Winter Visitor

Fall Family Festival Fotos later.

Just a note to those with imaginations:
We will be hosting a winter visitor. He arrives this afternoon. He is a giraffe named Gregory. He hails from Chicago, and is coming here because he's too tall to live indoors for the winter and he likes golf. He will be staying in our backyard. Go say hello and introduce yourself. He is friendly. To those who like that sort of thing, he also likes S'mores.

Okee Dokee Artichokee

Danjo really, really likes these things, with lots and lots of butter
Adventurer Two was too busy eating to pose
Venom likes them more than her expression would indicate
Young Adventurer experiments with various artichoke consumption techniques
And for you who think I don't try strange things...
There are things I will do for the sake of a photo. This was Take Two.

Hey, Urban Ranger...

When does the giraffe arrive? Gregory? Needing details.

Heart Healthy Snacks?

Why helping my kids with their homework makes me smile

Young Adventurer was working on some homework that involved thinking of four animals, adding up the numerical value of their names (a=1, b=2 and so on), and figuring out what adds up to the highest number. Two things amazed me about this. First, that he didn't pick ant, bird, pig, and fish like I would have and I thought he would; and second, that he could add the values of agouti(e), manatee, and penguin accurately in his head without writing anything down, and only needed a calculator for hippopotamus.

Adventurer Two was working on math homework and claiming that she can finish the current math book and finish the next one (saxon Algebra 1/2) all before the end of 6th grade (it wouldn't surprise me), and wondering what math she will be doing in her senior year of high school.

Venom was studying for a history test. I was helping her. Here are some of the questions:

Who is Ralf Nedar?

Difference between a closed and oppen primary?

Gole of the prohabitionist party?
(I'll give you this one--'to outlaw the sail of alchohal')

What is a political manchine?

Do you know who Jhon Anderson was?

Do you know which of the first two political parties Halmantin was the leader of?

How does a loosing party help the comunity?

(Yes, she knew all the answers and will do well on the test; yes, I had her permission to post this; yes I preserved the original spelling; and no it was not a turned-in homework assignment but rather her notes. Best part was asking why she spelled "gole" that way--'like "goalie" but without the "a" and the "y"')

Venom also has a math problem for you:
What function is represented by the following table?
x | f(x)
-1| 0
-2| 7
-3| 26
-4| 63
She figured it out before she left class today . How fast are you at algebra? I didn't get a chance to work it out before she and Adventurer Two were discussing the answer. :-(

Oh, one last bit of trivia: 89 is a prime number.

At what age can I demand hush money?

And no, I did not take these photos.

Something's Gonna Burn

I'm just not sure what. Venison? A heretic? Dinner? There were no tracks.
Ah, I have become more fully informed. This was built by the daughter of Booyor. The leaves represent marshmallows which were devoured by her and Venom. They were living in a "cave" nearby. Sounds like "We Were Tired of Living In A House"...
(Oh, if you are inspired to buy this book, hold out for the nearly black and white, out of print version with illustrations by Doris Burn. The new one is NOT the same at all.)

Can I have my ball back?

Hello, neighbor. How's it going? I found all these golf balls in our backyard. I think they are yours. You must have been practicing your chip shots (or something-I don't really know much about golf). Is your game improving? The weather is getting nice for golf. I was wondering, have you found The Hope of His Calling in your yard? I kinda hit it over the fence... No? It's not there? Are you sure? Could you check the pool?... Oh. Maybe I swing harder than I thought... What was I doing knocking that around? Well, let's just say I got a little upset and leave it at that... Yeah, I know. Well, thanks... No, don't worry about the golf balls. If we find more, we'll just bring them back again.

Should we try and prune these?

I thought they were just taking over the walkway, but now I think the plot is larger, more devious...

Young Adventurer Plans His Future

Tonight at dinner the Adventurers were musing about their futures. Adventurer Two is working on an autobiography as a school project. Venom did this project a couple of years ago. Part of it involves describing your future life. Adventurer Two will be publishing her story soon. Venom's is in print somewhere. Young Adventurer shares his here:

"When I am grown up, I"m going to be king of the "Save the Manatees Club." I'm going to live in an underwater virtual reality treehouse in a swamp area in Florida, with two 80 inch HDTVs, and in the other rooms there will be a pull-down projector screen. I'm also going be quite the pet person. Outside my house, underwater, I'm going to have two manatees, two puffer fish, and hmmm, some guppies. My job will be to work at an aquarium and work with the manatees.
I'm also going to have another home in Utah where you get one yard of snow on the island in the middle of the great Salt Lake. I'm going to be the tour guide of my island. My house in Utah in front of a creek with a mountain in my backyard has a swimming pool with two large waterslides where one is swirly and one goes straight down until it almost touches the water and then goes up a hill and down again into the water. I will have three bunnies, two New Zealand, and one Checkered Giant, and they will have a bunny mansion with waterbeds and spring chairs. I will have a monkey that is sometimes pretty annoying because sometimes he throws bananas at me."

The End.

[And to think all I want is a hut where I can make sandwiches of Perfectly Normal Beast...]

No Reason...

(what Young Adventurer wore for school picture day--they wouldn't let him wear the hat for the picture.)
It's a pear. Yes, it is.

The road that was taken.

Saltwater Taffy Day

The teeth have been freed from captivity!
I think she's actually eaten all the saltwater taffy already, as well as a big bowl of kettle corn. I need to go buy more sticky things to keep her happy.

A First

I have never blogged from the service lounge at a car dealership before.
I would rather be at home, but my van would rather be here getting a new battery.
I wouldn't mind being here if I had remembered to bring my book.

On a side note, Great Big Sea is the musical equivalent of Doctor Who and Hitchhiker's Guide for me. Keeps things in perspective. Don't ask me how. Maybe it's the song about a grog-drinking superhero. What is grog, anyway, and where can I get some? I want to try it.
