Ah, I have become more fully informed. This was built by the daughter of Booyor. The leaves represent marshmallows which were devoured by her and Venom. They were living in a "cave" nearby. Sounds like "We Were Tired of Living In A House"...
(Oh, if you are inspired to buy this book, hold out for the nearly black and white, out of print version with illustrations by Doris Burn. The new one is NOT the same at all.)
