Matthew 21

This is a fig.
A creepy(ing) fig.
Don't eat it.
These vines are cursed.
They are fruitful,
but the fruit is of the inedible variety,
and edible fruit will not appear later.

As iron sharpens iron,

so one man sharpens another.

He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,

and he who looks after his master will be honored.

As water reflects a face,

so a man’s heart reflects the man.

Proverbs 27:17-19

This came to mind yesterday afternoon--that "iron sharpens iron" thing. I should have looked it up sooner. Then I would have seen the next verse about figs. You tend the fig tree, you want to be able to appreciate the fruit, especially when you're hungry.

We planted a pomegranate tree a couple of years ago. I love this tree. It can barely be called a tree, because it's not even as tall (or short) as I am yet. Some new leaves have just appeared on it in the last few days and we had a little party in the backyard yesterday when we noticed them. Last year we had one fruit that didn't really make it to maturity. Waiting to see what we get this year.
